In researching my Bourdeau tree, I discovered that Pierre Bourdeau 1803-1887 was involved in the 1837-1838 rebellion in Canada. The archives of Quebec hold a certificate titled "Events of 1837-1838:Following in the footsteps of Patriots". It further says "Association brothers hunters and secret oath-Organization rebellion". So I looked into what that could mean and found out that it's known as a Hunter's Lodge formed after Masonic Lodges, with four degrees, Snowshoe, Beaver, Grand Hunter and Patriot Hunter. In 1870, there's a pay-list showing that he was in the 4th regiment of Canadian Chasseurs........

Pierre's parents are Francois Bourdeau and Julie Pinsonneau. Pierre married Angelique Lessart, thier children are Elizabeth, Lea, Pierre, Marc and Marie Louise!

Pierre's cousin, Jacques was also involved in this Rebellion. He's the son of Laurent Bourdeau 1764 and Marguerite Lemiuex 1767. Jacques married Francoise Robert in 1824 and they had 17 children. A story told about Jacques is that he fled to New York state. He would run guns and ammunition to the American's across the border. Jacques was caught, escaped and fled back to the U.S. In the 1850's he brought the family up through Michigan into southern Ontario to a French community called Pain Court!
